Our Services

Miller Technical Communications and Miller's Safety Manuals provide engineering, environment, health and safety technical writing services to oil/gas and pipeline companies operating in Western Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba), the United States, in South America, and North Africa. Technical writing services include:

  1. Researching, developing, updating and re-formatting company manuals, handbooks, on-line documents (intranets), digital forms, hard-copy reports, bulletins, fact sheets in the following areas:

    • Engineering codes/standards/practices/procedures (i.e., pressure equipment and integrity management, enhanced production measurement/accounting, facilities, pipelines, drilling, servicing and completions, etc.).
    • Workplace environment, health & safety (EH&S) manuals and worker orientation guides (i.e., COPs, SOPs, SSOPs, OHOPs, EOPs, governance, standards, policies, and workplace rules).
    • Regulatory compliance manuals/user guides (i.e., AB/BC/SK/MB OHS, WCB, AER, OGC).
    • Emergency Response Management, Role Booklets, ICS Forms, and TableTop Exercises.
    • Company standards associated with task/process analysis, hazard assessment, risk management, incident reporting and investigation.
    • Oilfield related PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, bulletins, and handouts.

  2. Consulting with management and staff on EH&S policies, procedures and operations when required. Delivering EH&S presentations and training to clients.

  3. Reformatting documents by inserting company name, information and company logos.

  4. Obtaining and interpreting legislative information from provincial and federal governmental agencies and its impact on operations. Communicating regulatory/legislative changes to our client base.

    Provincial/federal OHS legislation (includes WCB), Environmental Regulations, AER Directives, BC OGC Guidelines, SK ECON, MB IE&M, Industry Recommended Practices, CSA/ANSI Standards.

  5. Providing advanced PDF services (i.e., conversions, portfolios, forms, date stamps) for document control. Promoting and implementing up-to-date technical writing techniques and software. Conversion of MS Word forms to Adobe PDF for data entry/transmission on laptops/notebooks and iPads.

  6. Providing expertise in Microsoft Office Pro 2003 and 2010 editions, Microsoft Visio, Adobe CS5 Design Suite (i.e., InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat) as it pertains to document preparation and desktop publishing. We have worked with many software programs and we can quickly adapt to a client's software, templates, and/or style guides.

  7. Developing, designing, implementing and maintaining document templates and style guides.

  8. Establishing and maintaining ISO-based EHS management systems.

  9. Preparing and implementing the Management of Change (MOC) process for facilities, production processes, equipment and/or personnel.

  10. Conducting GAP analyses of a company's existing documentation and current practices with new business and/or regulatory requirements all in alignment with corporate expectations (include other business units), policies and management standards.

  11. Aligning documentation after mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.

  12. Developing, implementing and maintaining corporate document control systems.

  13. Preparing contracts/proposals for work in the Canadian Arctic which includes organizing logistical support (i.e., camps, helicopters and fuel caches, etc.) and contacting aboriginal groups (i.e., hunters/ trappers associations).

  14. Coordinating and facilitating print production services for clients.
